Dinning Room Chair Turned Accent Piece

CraigsList Find! 

I was searching through CraigsList last month and meandered my way to the "free stuff". I came across two slightly hideous chairs and thought to myself, what a fun project!!! Oh yeah, immediately called my mom to have her pick them up for me (thanks mom!- they were in the same city she lives in and they would have not fit in my car!).

How gross is this? Only one of the chairs made it for the remodel, the other one was in pretty bad condition.

I have been wanting an accent chair for my room for awhile but have just been pushing it aside. I initially wanted to paint the chair a mustard yellow and then use the same fabric from this post Faux Headboard Art. Well come to find out it is a special home decor fabric, and it was going to take three weeks to get to me (I don't have that much patience) and it wasn't on sale from when I had originally bought it. Ughhh....

So taking the original fabric (top) that I had wanted to use, I decided settled on stripes instead. Now the hard part was to decide which color to use.... black stripes with the mustard yellow paint or yellow stripes with black paint. I ended up buying both of the striped fabrics. Next stop was the store for some spray paint (Did you know I am OBSESSED with spray paint?). Of course they have a WHOLE entire aisle of spray paint- and NO mustard yellow. I did end up buying a color I thought would look good, and I tested it on the other chair--- yeah it looked like a school bus.

So by process of elimination I went ahead with the yellow striped fabric and black paint.

I am in LOVE with how it turned out! It looks really good as an accent piece in my room. As mentioned before check out this post and you will see what I am talking about. It was a bit troubling at time trying to figure out how to reupholster this chair... with A LOT of help from my mom (thanks mom!) we were able to pull it together! Definitely learned a lot for next time, but for now next time is A LONG way aways.

Cards From Scraps

Moonlighter 

A couple of weeks ago a good friend of mine invited me to a "Scrapbook Moonlighter". It's a night you scrapbook, gossip about the latest celebrity, or in my case... your favorite blog you have been stalking reading recently. Enjoy some delicious cookies and attempt to have a finished product after by Midnight. 

 It was a lot of fun, but in the mix of working two jobs... I didn't plan very well and didn't come prepared with anything to work on. I pretty much threw together a goody bag of stuff prior to running out of the door. I decided since to work on some cards because I never seem to just have some on hand and have to panic to make one while I am running out the door. So after several hours, this is what I came up with:

I was very happy about my new cards, and they best part was... I didn't spend any money for materials! I already had all of the cardstock, ribbons, stamps, embellishments and tags on hand!

Cheese Cloche Redo

Cheese Cloche & A Candle Holder....

I have seen so many different ideas using both the cheese cloche & a candle holder/base. My favorite redo is over at House of Hepworths but there are so many different styles and ways to do this project the possibilites are endless! 

It took me awhile to find these two items, searching high and low between good will and garage sales I finally came across two that I like!

I found the cheese cloche at a local garage sale for $1! And the candle base I found at an antique expo for $5. The cheese cloche was in very good shape, so I didn't even have to prep or prime it. I used E6000 glue (this stuff is amazing!) and glued the two together. Then I added a couple coats of spray paint... and here is my finished product.....

As I mentioned, there are so many different ideas out there for these, and all of them are truly amazing. It is rewarding to see how two simple household items can pair together for this great project! I chose to put lemons in my dome, but a lot of women have used an assortment of things... ranging from fruit, cheese, brownies, cupcakes, candy, to even a bird's nest with robin eggs.

Red, White & Blue

4th of July Wreath

I made this wreath last minute over the weekend. This year has gone by so fast I can't believe the 4th came so quickly, and I almost forgot to make something in celebration!

This project took a little bit of time, but it was VERY easy to make! Below are the materials I used... 

- Any fabric

- Wreath

I cut the fabric into strips about two inches wide and eight inches long. (I got a 1/2 yard cut of each fabric and that was perfect!) I alternated the colored strips and just tied them in knots around the wreath. I did not use any adhesive or glue, it was not needed. Once you have completed tying the fabric around the whole wreath you can move the knots (since they aren't glued) and make a pattern alternating them. 

Ta da! This project could be used for ANY celebration, just use your choice of fabric!

Etching Glass

How To Etch Glass!

Last week I came across this really cool tutorial given by Ashley over at Make It & Love It . I couldn't wait to try it! I have a Silhouette, and am still learning how to use it, so I love finding new projects that I can use it with!
(I was so anxious to get started I wasn't very good at taking step by step pictures. Whoops!)

First step is to cut your vinyl and desired design. Using the negative cut out place it on the glass. (The votives were purchased at the Dollar Tree, and they could easily be used for a drinking glasses as well!)

Using Armor Etch place it over your design, be very careful with where you place this stuff!! It is PERMANENT and CAN NOT be wiped off! Let it sit for 7-10 minutes and then rinse it off with tap water, wiping the excess amount off.

And ta da! They are kind of hard to see in the pictures but they turned out great!

This one is my favorite*!!! I am ALWAYS using my pyrex and leaving it here and there, this way with my name on it, it won't get lost! As Ashely mentioned, it is such a great idea for a wedding gift to etch the newlyweds last name on a set of pyrex.

I might be going on an etching phase, and I will be sharing ;)

I Heart Ribbon

What to do with so much ribbon??? 

This is my collection of ribbon I have accumulated over the years. I find myself buying ribbon for a specific project, tossing it in the drawer and then never looking back. Here are a few projects I have bought & recycled ribbon on:

Mason Jars that hold Archie's dog food and treats. 

Toilet Paper holder in the bathroom needed a little splash of color.

One of my roommates made this for me for my college graduation (I LOOVE IT, I rarely ever get anything scrapbooked for myself, so I was ecstatic when I got this!) Anyways, ribbon is a great way to hold chip board together and is always helpful in hanging a picture.

Gift wrapping of course! It adds so much color to a simple box.
